Here's a bit about us

Lagoon is a small British company that designs, manufactures and sells a range of world-class games, puzzles and books. The products are not only fun to play, read or do, they look visually appealing and are made of high quality materials.

Lagoon was founded in 1988 with the aim of selling great games and puzzles as gifts for men. Founder Simon Melhuish came up with the idea after meeting a carpenter while travelling around Thailand on his gap year. The first products that Lagoon launched – six wooden puzzles - were designed by Simon and manufactured in Thailand. They sold out immediately creating a fairly crazy Christmas for Simon and his wife Joanna, who packed and despatched the games from the dining room of their home in South West London.

Many more wooden puzzles and games followed and Simon was able to move into proper offices and employ some full-time staff in 1991. With more staff on board, he had time to concentrate on product development and Lagoon expanded into sports trivia games, magic tricks and drinking games as well as traditional toys like kites, yachts and yoyos! Then in 1997 MD Heather Watherston joined him to set up what was to become the publishing arm of Lagoon. The first eight little puzzle books which were published (see Mind-Bending Puzzle Books) have now gone on to sell more than a million copies!

Today, over 30 years on, Lagoon has a range of nearly 400 puzzles, games and books which are sold all over the world. But some of our original products – such as the wooden puzzles – are still in our range today, albeit in more sustainable wood and more contemporary packaging.

All the gifts are still designed in-house by a team of great creative minds. All manufacturing is outsourced but we have a core group of excellent suppliers, many of which we have been in partnership with for more than 25 years. We are committed to working with these suppliers to ensure responsible working conditions. Our priority is absolute safety in the manufacturing and choice of materials in all our items. We comply to and exceed EN71 European trading standards and ASTM and CPSIA, the American trading standards.

Thank you for looking at what we do and we hope you find shopping for gifts for men (and women and children) easy and fun!
